Photography and Musinf

From an artistic point of view, the pride of Senigallia is to have seen the skill and well-deserved fame of photographer Mario Giacomelli, who died in November 2000, shot by shot.
The Senigallia artist started his career as a typographer and then fell in love with the camera. Lots of exhibitions on exhibitions have been dedicated to the artist, both in Italy and abroad, and he is still celebrated for his very personal vision of a distant and mythical rural world.

Adopted by Senigallia, photographer Giuseppe Cavalli, Giacomelli’s master, is the founder of the Misa Photographic Association. As a critic and publicist, he developed and then promoted the rules for art photography. He was the first in Italy to theorize these artistic methods, marking the history of Italian photography in the second half of the twentieth century.

MUSINF
The great unforgettable artists of photography of the Misa Photography Group, from Paolo Bocci to Ferruccio Ferroni and Fosco Maraini, left indelible traces in the world of photography at an international level and their most relevant works are collected at MUSINf, the Municipal Museum of Modern Art, Information and Photography in Via Pisacane 84, behind the La Fenice Theater.

The museum, an important cultural center dating back to the 1980s, collects engraving and graphic art works by twentieth-century masters (over 300 artists from Tamburi to Treccani, Purificato, Annigoni and two thousand works). The Senigallia archive also includes documents dedicated to mail art, copy art and visual poetry.

The heart of the institute is the Photographic Documentation Center which collects over 1700 works by contemporary photographers: in addition to the section dedicated to the Misa photographic school by aforementioned Giuseppe Cavalli and Mario Giacomelli, there is an interesting and rich ex libris section and the library of the Credit Institutions Publishing.

Another great contemporary photography artist from Senigallia is Giorgio Pegoli, a photo-reporter and journalist. His works allow the public to learn about distant worlds, important facts, and forgotten wars. His numerous experiences on the field, which saw him play the role of journalist and reporter, resulted in numerous exhibitions.
