Visit the Frasassi Caves and you will enter a magical underground world made of irregular paths delimited by limestone rocks, stalactites and stalagmites.
The caves were discovered in 1971 when a speleologist exploring Mount Valmontagnana went into a small tunnel in the impressive wells of the Grotta Grande del Vento. This extends for 35 km with dozens of enormous chambers and wells up to 150 meters high.
The equipped tourist path opened to the public in 1974 is 1500 meters long and can be accessed through an artificial gallery.
The interior is reminiscent of a Gothic cathedral shaped by nature over millions of years; the ponds look crystal with majestic inlaid walls. The lights and the scenography were conceived by a television personality, Cesarini from Senigallia, who enhanced environments of exceptional elegance, narrowing and widening paths, a wonderful world of large rooms outlined by suspended stalactites that feed the stalagmites on the ground with a drop.
The names suggest the beauty and charm of the paths and visitors indulge in an unforgettable fairy-tale landscape: the Giants, Niagara, the Dead Tree, the Crystallized Lake, the Duecento Room, the Gentile da Fabriano Room, the Witches’ Castle, the Sword of Damocles, Obelisk, Grand Canyon, Organ Pipes, up to the most suggestive one, the Room of the Candles, to continue with the White Room, the Bear Room, the Infinite Room and the Angel Hair Room.
The most demanding paths requiring a fair amount of experience, or audacity, can be visited with the guidance of expert speleologists.
The Caves can be considered as an enchanted and striking space in their own right, difficult to tell and describe, much better seen live …
