It has become one of the most famous white wines in the world, awarded as a “DOC” and “DOCG” wine, in its Riserva and Classico Riserva versions.
Celebrated throughout Italy by great experts and as many gourmets, this wine is recognizable thanks to its strong personality and at the same time to the unmistakable delicate notes, a fresh fragrance of fruit and flowers and a dry flavor with a pleasantly bitter aftertaste.
All the dishes of Mediterranean cuisine are easily matched with a good Verdicchio.
The characteristic of Verdicchio vines lies in their cultivation, possible only in the territory of the Castelli di Jesi, where, the particular nature of the soil, the favorable climatic conditions and, above all, the constant ventilation that prevents the formation of moisture on the bunches, makes optimal grape ripening possible. The most consistent production area mainly concerns the hills in the center of the province of Ancona and in a small part of the territories of the province of Macerata.
Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, from the original grape variety of the vineyards on the valley of the Esino river, is also produced in the Classico and Riserva versions. The basic component of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi is the verdicchio grape, which can be mixed with a minimum percentage – no more than 15% – of Tuscan trebbiano and Tuscan malvasia. However, the qualifying objective pursued by most producers is total purity.
The very compact and practically cylinder-shaped bunch is well recognizable even for the slight green hue it is named after.
The wine has a straw color and greenish notes, with an alcohol content of 12°.
