As for food and wine, Senigallia and its surroundings provide an excellent offer. About 15 km from the town, the villages of the hinterland are qualified producers of honey (especially Ostra and Castelleone di Suasa), oil (Ostra, Corinaldo, Monte San Vito and Scapezzano), wine (for more information click on the menu dedicated to the “Great Wines”), Pecorino cheese, various cured meats including the tasty Fabriano salami, the renowned spreadable ciauscolo salami, and the typical Marche lonza and coppa.
Special consideration should be given to Arcevia for the renowned summer black truffle, and to Castelleone di Suasa for the red onion. Throughout the region, particular importance and care is given to organic products, which are also showcased at the famous S. Agostino Fair, where they are reserved a special stand for purchases and complete menus to taste.
Distillates are also noteworthy: in addition to grappa obtained from fine wines, the anise liquor is an outstanding local example. Obviously, fish has a prominent position among local produce, especially bluefish, which is expertly cooked so as not to lose its flavor and food benefits.
All the products typical of Senigallia and its surroundings are often celebrated with parties and festivals, where they can be tasted in their authenticity or cooked in unusual ways.
