Known as the “Pearl of the Mountains”, it is surrounded by nine castles constituting one of the main attractions of the territory of Arcevia: these walled inhabited centers dating back to the 14th-15th centuries have preserved their peculiarities, which are still today well represented by popular festivals.
Its medieval name, Rocca Contrada, is linked to the fortress, an impregnable military outpost whose walls, four castle gates and towers are preserved. The collegiate church of San Medardo houses art treasures: two works by Luca Signorelli, terracotta by Della Robbia and a Gothic wooden choir.
